Arsenal legend Sol Campbell has called on Mesut Ozil and Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta to resolve their differences for the good of the club.
Ozil did not feature at all following the Premier League restart in June having fallen out of favour with his
The former German international has previously said he wants to stay with Arsenal until the end of his £350,000-a-week contract.
Ozil appears to not be part of the Gunners’ plans for the immediate future and did not feature in the Community Shield against Liverpool.
Former Arsenal defender Campbell told talkSPORT that they need to meet halfway and resolve the problem.
He said: “Obviously, internally there is something going on. It’s all there for everyone to see. I think it’s going to come down to how they approach it and the conversations they have in private. How Ozil trains and things like that. It’s really going to come down to that.
“They need to come together somehow but if there’s a standoff then nothing is going to happen.
“Someone’s got to give and to give in is not always to lose. You don’t always have to give in and it means you are losing.
“It’s just sometimes you have to meet halfway.”
Arteta has already won the FA Cup and Community Shield even though he only took over as manager in December.
Campbell said the Gunners must use this positivity to push on now.
“Arsenal were looking for a breath of fresh air and they’ve got it in Mikel. That’s key really. Players are responding and players are willing to run for each other.
“Young players are coming in and getting a chance and all the players are inspired by the young players. Everyone is feeding off each other in a positive way. That’s key for me.
“Edu is there as well and there’s a nice relationship there. It seems to be working really well.
“They have to go from strength to strength now and keep the positivity.”
